Explore My Work

Currently I work on a number of engineering and social impact projects. These projects range from COVID-19 responses in Washington, D.C. assisting The George Washington University and Hospital, all the way to COVID-19 grassroot initiatives in Mali in West Africa. I also started a consulting fabrication service business. Please scroll down to see more.

MALI MAKER - COVID RESPONSE

Mali Makers is a consortium of engineers, designers and medical professionals working to revolutionize the maker community of Mali to prepare for future health and development crises. My role on the team includes prototyping engineering and medical solutions that can be locally sourced. This includes production of an N-95 equivalent mask produced from locally-sourced plastic (vacuum forming), face shields, and a negative pressure ventilator. My additional tasks include project management of technical projects included in the consortium. In just 4 months we have received funding from the Malian government and the Clinton Foundation.

HANDS -FREE COVID CHECK-IN STATION

During spring break, I gathered a team of engineers and designers to respond to a request for a safer check-in process for hospital staff at The GW Hospital. We designed and developed multiple versions of a Hands-Free Check-in kiosk. We used a PI zero, sensors, and a user-friendly foot pedal system to check the health status of hospital staff entering the building. We collaborated with the GW Hospital Chief Administrator and CMO on a weekly basis for over two months. By the time of the project's completion, conducted 4 field tests for over 600 users. Over the course of this project, I learned the importance of human factors, user-interface design, and the decision-making process within medical institutions.

THE PPE FACTORY

When the COVID-19 crisis hit the U.S., members of the D.C. community (emergency departments, hospitals and fire departments) contacted me about shortages of PPE, specifically face shields and masks. Quickly over the course of a couple days, I contacted the 3D-printing facilities around campus and was able to setup a PPE FACTORY with my colleagues at the GW Corcoran School of Art and Design. To date, we have printed 3,000 shields as well as many other valuable components and support pieces for medical equipment. In collaboration with a designer and medical professional, I leveraged my skills in 3D modeling and 3D printing optimization to create a successful production site for PPE.

N-95 EQUIVALENT RESPIRATOR

I collaborated with a PhD student and medical professionals to assess the safety and effectiveness of a 3D-printed N95 respirator. Our team published a pre-print on the assessment and started a human trial with 100 users: https://www.preprints.org/manuscript/202003.0444/v1

ART AND FAB-WORKS

I always like to learn new skills and improve existing ones. I have recently gained more experience in laser cutting for engineering prototyping as well as for other commissioned work. Please see below pictures of laser-cut art pieces which I was able to create for a client as well as my school (GW SEAS).
